Hi Ralph Sun Media Peterborough News Local: Ralph G. Ditchburn revels in book signing at Chapter's By Dale Clifford, Peterborough Examiner Monday, November 17, 2014 10:04:21 EST dale.clifford@sunmedia.ca He also sells Koni Dolls, which are good luck charms, and a portion of each sale goes to the Crossroads Woman’s Shelter and YWCA, Peterborough. He had sold about 20 books towards the end of his session in Peterborough on Saturday. They sell for $19.99. The Inheritance Letter is currently available in more than 30 Chapters stores across Ontario, Craftworks at Fowlers Corners, the Kent Bookstore in Lindsay, Selwyn, the Ojibwa Whetung Centre in Curve Lake, Journeys in Millbrook and Happenstance in Lakefield. “There is a need for people in the know to do more and they have the power to affect change,’’ he said. “The message is important to me and I love to write and tell stories.’’ One of the first things you notice about local author Ralph Ditchburn, is the way in which he markets his work. From near Omemee, he spoke about that during a book signing of his novel The Inheritance Letter at Chapters on Saturday. Part of Robbie’s Adventures, a series of fictional adventure novels, it builds on a woman’s tragic story he discovered while researching Boston’s history. He was inspired to use the pen just after the Boston Marathon tragedy. It is a work of historical fiction, romance and adventure and out of this story of a woman`s tragic tale, hints are made about women’s right issues and abuses worldwide still going on. It is about discovering what is necessary to start anew and finding new love. It is a love story which unfolds to reveal human misgivings. His adventures are set in well researched historical settings with real life characters that people care about. Set in the late 1800's Robbie’s story is based on real events of life and history covering the Arctic, Hudson’s Bay, Niagara, USA and Boston. In that sense and to help present his book, characters dressed in period costume and who are highlighted in the book, appear at the 61-year-old Ditchburn’s side at events like book signings. They were there Saturday and caught your attention immediately as you walked into the store. “I do eccentric things and I like to use props and costumes,’’ he said with a smile. “It is a natural flow.’’ Work on the 288-page book began just about a year ago, with the idea circulating within him shortly before that. Writing is something that has come naturally to him as he has authored many screenplays and written for the Omemee Cornhuskers Baseball newsletter. He worked for 22 years for the Toronto Stock Exchange, before retiring. Putting it simply, he is fascinated with history, romance and adventure and is working on a sequel as part of the series, Robbie’s Incarceration, which continues in that regard and also speaks to the human spirit, taking place during the American Revolutionary War. The moment you have been waiting for, our pics from Saturday, November 15, 2015 at Chapters Peterborough, all afternoon. Family, friends, fans and gouls, thank you for the support. I need the help and love of all of you to help me promote this wonderful book and make it all work. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for my recent successes. ralphThe above photos were taken by Jasmine Hong. our much talented niece.

this is a corrected version of my kawartha interview, HomeCommunity Author's book not only creatively satisfying but... | 19 hours ago Author's book not only creatively satisfying but is also philosophically rewarding. First book builds foundation for future The Inheritance Letter. Catherine Whitnall reports, Emily Township resident Ralph Ditchburn is thrilled with the response his first book, The Inheritance Letter, has received. The novel, which builds on a tragic story he discovered while researching Boston's history, is available locally at the Kent Bookstore. Kawartha Lakes This Week By Catherine Whitnall (OMEMEE). When Ralph Ditchburn set out to write a story to counter the horrific impact of the Boston Marathon bombings on April 15, 2013, he had no idea an equally devastating tale that spoke to the power of humanity would emerge.
The Inheritance Letter builds on a woman’s tragic story he discovered while researching Boston’s history.
“I was so moved by what had happened to her that I was almost obsessed with bringing her to life further,” said Mr. Ditchburn who had written a number of screenplays - and was also author of the Omemee Cornhuskers Baseball newsletter when he played for the team - after retiring from 22 years working in the Toronto Stock Exchange.
Work on the “multi-faceted novel filled with history, adventure and romance” began just over a year ago and saw Mr. Ditchburn spend countless hours studying the pre- and post-American Revolution time period; the setting of the novel. From the very beginning, the Emily Township resident knew it was going to be a series of novels.
“Books are so much more fun to write than screenplays. You can really develop characters,” said Mr. Ditchburn. “I’m very proud that I have wrote an engaging book that people not only love, but that has also been personally rewarding and inspiring...I think the book defines me as an author and helps build the foundation for the future.”
Mr. Ditchburn added writing The Inheritance Letter - and its sequel, Robbie’s Incarceration - has also helped him “infuse a message” that speaks to the power people have within them to affect change and assist “the world on the road to civilization as we know it”, hopefully inspiring readers along the way.
He’s even learned a few things about himself.
“I’ve learned my spelling has become atrocious as I’ve gotten older,” quipped Mr. Ditchburn, adding more seriously, “the most important thing I’ve learned is compassion. I’m constantly saying all these great stories, things that have been said to me...you do become a more enlightened human being and maybe, even become a better writer.”
The Inheritance Letter is currently available in more than 30 Chapters stores across Ontario - including Peterborough where he will be doing an author signing event on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. - Autographed copies are available at "Craftworks" at Fowlers Corners, Chapters Peterborough and Cobourg, Pintos Corners Variety, Riverview Variety and the Kent Bookstore in Lindsay.
Mr. Ditchburn also hopes to pay his good fortune forward by donating $1 from the sale of commissioned Koni dolls - aboriginal good luck charms commonly held during the book’s time period - to the Crossroads Women’s Shelter in Peterborough. The dolls are available at Jane’s Kountry Kitchen in Lindsay and Kings Fortune Chinese Food near Omemee, Benchmark Computers Ptbo or from his website.

![]() Goodreads Book GiveawayThe Inheritance Letterby Ralph G. DitchburnGiveaway ends September 10, 2014. See the giveaway details at Goodreads. ![]() 'The Inheritance Letter' Local historical fiction writer Ralph G. Ditchburn, greeted book lovers at Chapters on Saturday, Aug. 23rd, 2014, announcing the release of his new book, 'The Inheritance Letter', the first in a series of books called Robbies Adventures. The first book is now available at Chapters, Peterborough, as well as - NOW OVER 30 STORES IN THREE WEEKS. Future Book signings will be at Chapters stores in Markham followed by a return to Chapters in Peterborough on November 15th at 1 pm. 'The Inheritance Letter' is published by Friesen Press, (who also published the original Harry Potter series of books) and is distributed by the Ingram Book Co. Asked what prompted him to write this book, Mr. Ditchburn answered, "the Boston Marathon Bombings, made me curious about the city which led to further investigation about Boston’s history. Since I am interested in history, I began to tie an earlier era to other parts of the northeastern United States and Canada and something tweaked in me to write the first book in the developing series of Robbies Adventures. That something that inspired me was a true woman’s tragic tale that was very lightly treaded upon." Mr. Ditchburn has spent the last 18 months writing and proof reading his new book, and has plans to write at least two more in the series. The next book in the series will be called 'Robbies Incarceration', of which he has 41000 words fleshed out already. Later this year, he also plans to release a short book titled, 'A Blog Help for Writers' for those wishing to produce a fiction novel. This is a fast how-to where you read for twenty minutes, daydream (or brainstorm) for twenty minutes, then fill-in-the-blanks and have- your-story. With re-write and polish or start over with more of your own story ideas as options. Included is a must read list of publisher caveats you need to read before talking to a publisher. Assisting Mr. Ditchburn on Saturday for his book signing was Dorothy Richards, Nancy Geary & sister Lisa, Jacob, Chaisson, Jessica Geary, Jasmine Hong Photography, Laurie, Glen Stokoe dressed as a British Redcoat Infantryman (who is also Robbie Wolfe in the story), and Dennis Havinga dressed as a Ivor Jennings (a hero and friend to Robbie Wolfe in the story). And Michael Howe, our new robbiesadventures.com member, portraying the evil Sergeant Percival Devil. Here is Ralph G. Ditchburn’s summary of his book.... "Set in the late 1800's Robbie’s story is based on real events of life and history covering the Arctic, Hudson’s Bay, Niagara and Boston. Explored are: finding courage, finding new love, revealing human misgivings and some of the controversies involving Boston which precipitated the actual birth of America and the division of peoples that would inherit North America. Robbie finds meaning to his life and is committed to delivering a letter bequeathing a fortune...will he save and win Lillian's heart?" ...The above story and photo's are submitted by Ralph's brother Donald R. Ditchburn |

![]() American Revolutionary Rifle $169.97 ADD TO CART WISH LIST I am not an authorized reseller. Description: This is a shortened "carbine" version of the Charleville, modeled after the French 1763 musket, and was widely used in the colonies and against British troops in the Revolutionary War. Bayonet not included. 43” length. The smoothbores depicted on the cover of the Inheritance Letter was a replica 39” smooth bore musket from India and Ivor sported a German Jaegar Rifle that boasted an incredible 400 feet of accuracy. These were made from paper mache. I tried hobby shops, guns shops, friends and did not have a gun prop. I was able to secure a real smooth bore musket just after book launch date confirmed. This one has no hole drilled for igniting the gun powder from the pan to the barrel and a screw drilled down through the end to distinguish this non-grooved* rifle as unable to fire. *smooth bores have no grooves in barrel and when firing caused a ricochet affect in the barrel making accuracy a problem where rifling meant the barrels would have grooves etched into the metal down the length of the barrel thus making the bullet spin and create dead-on accuracy.
